Selling at Adams

Adams offer a free valuation service here in our salerooms on St Stephens Green or you can also arrange for a valuer to call to your house by appointment. We recommend initially sending in photographs together with any other relevant information, from which we are happy to advise as to value. You can send your photographs in by post or by e-mail to info@adams.ie, there is no obligation to sell. We offer friendly informed professional advice in the strictest of confidence.

A sale receipt is issued for items consigned for sale, which details our terms of engagement in accordance with our conditions of sale. All lots are given pre-sale estimates from which reserves may be placed indicating the minimum price at which the lot may be sold. All reserves must be agreed with the Auctioneer 24 hours in advance of sale. Pre sale advices are issued prior to sale with the sale date & time together with descriptions of each lot, their agreed estimate and reserve. Post sale advices are issued 3 days after the auction with your auction sale results. Payment is issued approximately three weeks from the date of sale by way of cheque together with a statement attached detailing your deductions. Payment will only be made when all monies due from the buyer have been paid & cleared in accordance with our conditions of sale. All payments are made in Euro, unless otherwise instructed. Specific payment instructions will be accepted in writing prior to sale.

Sellers Commission: The following are the standard rates of commission for selling at Adams categorised by sale: Irish Art Sales 10%, Fine Art Sales 17.5%, Contemporary Picture Sales 17.5% (including all other specialist sales). These rates are standard rates subject to change, any queries regarding commissions should be addressed to our Accounts Department on accounts@adams.ie

Insurance: Unless otherwise instructed by the seller, all lots shall be automatically insured under the Adams fine arts policy. A charge of 1.5% of the hammer price is levied in accordance with our conditions of sale. Lots not covered under this policy remain completely at the seller’s own risk.

Photography &Illustrations: Catalogue illustrations are included at the discretion of the Auctioneer. Illustration charges will be calculated on the particular category of sale. These charges are subject to change. Irish art sale illustrations: €150.00 full page, €100.00 half page, €50 all other sizes. Fine art illustrations: Scaled fee €100.00 for lots sold for €3,000.00 hammer price & over, €50.00 for lots sold under €3000.00 hammer price. Contemporary picture illustrations: €25.00 per illustration. All lots illustrated and not sold are charged at €25.00 per illustration.

Any other extra costs associated with offering your lots for sale by way of outlay recoverable (carriage/storage/framing/restoration etc), shall be deducted from the proceeds of sale as agreed in advance on consigning your goods for sale.

VAT: Vat is charged on the above charges & deductions at a rate of 21.5%.
