Yeats - His watercolours, drawings and pastels, by Hilary Pyle Irish Academic Press 1993, Catalogue No.174 Hilary Pyle has written: Yeats gives a graphic picture of the blind man, sitting with his hat outstretched, his stick laid on the ground beside him. It seems the words on the card hanging from the man’s neck appealed to him as much as the image of the professional looking plaintiff. The scene seems to be taking place at a race meeting in the West.
