THE ROKEBY HALL, HALL CHAIRS. A SET OF FIVE IRISH MAHOGANY HALL CHAIRS, c.1800, ATTRIBUTED TO MACK WILLIAMS AND GIBTON, the solid backs formed as carved paterae, the central panel filled with a painted barons coronet, above a crest of a stag, shallow breakfront bowed seats on fluted square tapering legs with raised blocks, embellished with roundels, one with the paper label, Dublin and Drogheda Railway, carriage paid Provenance: From the Estate of Senator Edward McGuire and thence by descent. The crest is that of Robinson of Rokeby Hall, County Louth. This fine house, on which Francis Johnston worked, is in a late restrained neo - classical style entirely consistent with the style of these chairs. These chairs are similar to a set of hall chairs with the crest of La Touche of Marlay Park, a pair of which were sold by HOK Fine Art, and are now at Marlay.
