A small interesting Archive assembled by Jack Beattie, a colleague of Larkin in the Belfast dock labourers' dispute of 1907, later MP for the Falls Road area of Belfast, including: - A very rare small poster / broadside issued by Larkin during the Belfast dock, labourers' dispute, entitled ''Lock -Out of Dock Labourer's in Belfast,'' sm. 4to approx. 11'' x 9'', laid down on card, quoting a resolution of the Irish Trades Congress, Dublin 1907; - Typescript text of Larkin Memorial Lecture delivered by Jack Beattie, 20pp complete, top copy, with a second copy of same. This lecture was suppressed see ''John Gray on Dock Strike,'' 1907, published by Blackstaff Press 1985. - Typescript notes about Larkin by Jack Beattie, 5pp top copy; - 'The Stormont Cabinet,' pamphlet by Jack Beattie. - Two commemorative programmes relating to Jim Larkin and the Workers Union of Ireland. - A pair of Jack Beattie glasses. As a collection, manuscript, typed & printed. Contains much useful original material about Larkin and his trade union activities mainly in Belfast. * Larkin was sent to Belfast in 1907 as an organiser for the National (British) Union of Dock Labourers. He quickly organised a strong union branch, and when his members were locked out by employers, he organised a major six month strike by dockers and carters, which led to clashes and several deaths. It was in part a rehearsal for the Dublin Strike and lockout of 1913. (1)
