A shallow tray of circular shape adorned in underglaze cobalt blue with an hermit fisherman as well as with a poetry. The base is inscribed with the mark ‘若深珍藏’ for ‘Nhã Thâm Trân Tàng’ (Chữ Nôm) or ‘Ruo Shen Zhen Cang’ (Chinese), lit. ‘Precious collection of the seemingly old’.

Notes:

Lü Shang (呂尚, 11th century BC), commonly known as Jiang Ziya (姜子牙), was an ancient Chinese military strategist who helped King Wen and King Wu of Zhou overthrow the Shang Dynasty. The mark which is on the base is to be found in Davison’s ‘The New and reviser Handbook of Marks on Chinese Porcelain’, no. 1796.
