Sarah Purser HRHA (1848-1943) Nude Study Oil on board, 34 x 25cm (13.5 x 10'') Literature: ''The Life and Work of Sarah Purser'' by John O'Grady Full page illustration, Fig. 57, Catalogue no. 520. Provenance: From the Estate of the Collector Jim McNaughton The subject in this picture is Kathleen Kearney who was introduced to Purser by Maud Gonne for whom she was a receptionist. She became Purser's favourite model from around 1920 onwards. Kearney was a nationalist republican and married Stephen Behan and their children included the writer Brendan Behan. John O'Grady wrote of this picture ''This is an exultant celebration of the nude as a subject in its own right''
