A GREEK SILVER BOAT-SHAPED DISH, by Ilias Lalaounis, marked .925, the design is inspired by the Ilias Collection, the shaped hammered body with double lipped sides and twin ring side handles. 23.5cm side, 12.5cm wide over handles The technique of hammering metal was widely used by Ancient Greek goldsmiths, it revived in the Lalaounis workshops in the late 60's. Ilias LALAoUNIs was opened in 1941 by a fourth generation goldsmith of the same name. Renowned for redefining classical Greek jewellery from eras such as the Byzantine and Hellenistic periods in a modern way, by using both ancient and current techniques. His jewellery has been seen on the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. In 2003 a museum was opened in Athens devoted to his jewellery and decorative arts, the museum houses his past collections and a history of Greek jewellery. Ilias passed away in 2013 and the business is now run by his four daughters.
