LEABHAR NA mBAN 1919
Issued by Cumann na mBan, 1919, probably the first Irish women’s magazine. No editor or printer named, small quarto, 27 pp plus adverts, wrappers (chipped and stained, no loss). Apparently the sole issue, very scarce.
Contributions include a four page article on the history of Cumann na mBan by Siobhan Bean an Padhraigh (Jenny Wyse Power), ‘Our Prisoners’ (unsigned), ‘Cumann na mBan in Paris’ (Mrs. Gavan Duffy), ‘Military Activities’ (N. B. Uí L.), etc . Photographic illustrations include ‘Killarney Arrests’. An editorial in Irish explains that there is no space for poetry or ‘sgeultaibh fiannaidheachta’, given the urgent need to prepare for the tasks ahead. Adverts include the Dun Emer Guild, H. Boland, Merchant Tailor, the Foley Typewriter Trading Company, the New Ireland Assurance Co. and other concerns with Republican connections.
