Royal Irish Constabulary District Inspectors (1st Class) Uniform of George Hugh Mercer, consisting of: 1. Dress jacket, supplied by T.G. Phillips, 4 Dame Street, Dublin, contains sewn-in label with the name ''G. Mercer D. I., No. 1103, June 1911''. George Hugh Mercer, District Inspector was appointed Private Secretary to the Inspector General on 27th January 1911; 2. Uniform trousers; 3. Original leather cross belt and back pouch, with silver hallmarked fittings by the silversmiths' William Dowler & Sons (WD&S) of Birmingham: a Kings Crown Cross belt plate, a whistle chain and boss, and a cross belt pouch badge; 4. Original sword belt; 5. Dress sword and leather knot, with Royal Irish Constabulary cypher on the blade and with steel scabbard, in original chamois cover. Supplied by T.G. Phillips, Dame Street, Dublin 6. Leather boots (not contemporary) with two set of original spurs; 7. Service history and personal information regarding George Hugh Mercer and his wife Evelyn Eleanor Mercer (nee Smith).
