HUGH DOUGLAS HAMILTON (1739-1808) Portrait of William Power Keating Trench (1741-1805) (later first Earl of Clancarty) Pastel and crayon, oval, 24 x 19.5cms (9.5 x 7.7'') M.P. for Galway, Trench was described as ''an idle good-humoured dissolute man''. He consistently supported Catholic Emancipation and was generally in opposition but gave his support to the Union and got the requisite peerages in return. He married Anne Gardiner in 1762.
