A RARE IRISH GEORGIAN SILVER DOUBLE-LIDDED TABLE SNUFF CASKET, Dublin c.1750, mark of Benjamin Stokes (marked on both lid and body), the lids engraved with foliate borders, the smaller with a crest of a hand, the larger with a monogram, (c.7 troy ozs). 9.25cm wide, 4cm high
Bennett (Irish Georgian Silver, 1972) illustrates a nutmeg grater from 1735 of the same construction (illustration 47) and with a similar monogram. The sign of the hand dexter alludes to the Daly's kinship to the O'Neills of Ulster.
