A FABERGÉ ENAMEL AND PEARL BELT BUCKLE, BY SENIOR WORKMASTER HENRIK WIGSTRON, ST PETERSBURG, 1908-1917

Of circular shape, the surface enamelled with white polychrome, within seed pearl and gold borders, struck with maker's mark in Latin 'H.W' for Henrik Wigstron, 56 Zolotnik-gold standard for 14K gold and 88 Zolotnik for silver, scratched inventory number 189**, length 6cm

The initials H.W. are stamped on the enamel and pearl belt buckle. This piece is by Finish senior workmaster Henrik Immanuel Wigström, who moved to St Petersburg in 1878, where he became an apprentice in a goldsmiths workshop. It was the time he spent under mentorship of Perkhin that honed his skills as a goldsmith leading him to be Fabergés third and last senior workmaster. Wigström specialised in Louis XVI style objects and was responsible for producing most of the Imperial easter eggs from 1904 to 1917.His name is stamped on the majority of Fabergés hardstone animals, flowers and figures. The belt buckle bearing Wigströms initials is a lovely simple and stylish piece of impeccable design, showcasing Wigströms great ability and aesthetic eye.
