THE BALBRIGGEN YEOMANRY AND VOLUNTEER INFANTRY, 2 LATE 18TH CENTURY TUNIC BUTTONS. Both of one piece domed construction, silver plated, and of similar design, Hanoverian crown at centre, and bearing the legends ''Balbriggen Cavalry'' and ''Balbriggen Infantry'' respectively, circa 1798. In addition to its yeomanry and militia, Balbriggen (now spelt Balbriggan), Co. Dublin, had a small army guard in 1798. It was something of an isolated outpost, the nearest reinforcements being in Dublin, twenty miles to the south and in the garrison town of Drogheda, ten miles to the north.
