Mrs. Aine Ceannt (widow of Eamon Ceannt) & her sisters Kathleen and Lily [O']Brennan. A collection including - Aine Ceannt. ALS, 27.9.[19]51, 2 pp, to Ann [McGuone], thanking her warmly for her help in typing material for her andsorting her books, also mentioning plans to sell her house.- Irish White Cross Report. Report of theMeeting of the Irish White Cross Childrens Relief Association, 1 September 1936, with Secretary [Aine Ceannt]'s statement, audited acconts etc. Dublin, Three Candles, n.d. (circa 1937). Inscribed presentation copy to Anne McGuone from Aine Ceannt, 1950. A scarce item. The Irish White Cross was set up in 1920 to distribute American aid to help victims of the Anglo-Irish war. When the principal fund was wound up in 1922, remaining money was applied to a separate fund to assist the children of those killed or injured in the struggle. The six children of the McGuone family of Dungannon were among those assisted after the death of their father (due in part to his experiences in prison) in 1933. With a manuscript note by Anne McGuone Gallagher explaining the background.- Statement from the Women of Ireland to the Senate and Congress of the United States, issued on behalf of he Women Prisoners Defence Association by Kathleen Brennan, Secretary to the Delegation at Lausanne; Dr. Kathleen Lynn, medical director, St. Ultan's Hospital, & Mrs. Despard, Gen. Sec. 3 pp (single folded sheet), no printer, no date [1922]. Torn, with unsightly cellotape repairs, no loss. Very scarce.- A good ALS from the playwright T.C. Murray to Lily O'Brennan (sister of Aine Ceannt), 26.4.[19]28, 1 pp, about a photo, mentioning rehearsals, beginning to feel 'the nervy sensation of a first night', asking about her own [theatrical] adventure etc . 'The season will soon come to a close and if you are to have a production the matter should be pushed on now. But I know only too well how helpless the unfortunate playwright is in these circumstances.'- Also a few printed items including a miniature book inscribed to Kathleen Brennan, 1908.An interesting collection. It appears that these items were given by Aine Ceannt to Anne McGuone, who assisted her with typing and sorting her books. Aine Ceannt was Secretary of the White Cross Childrens Relief Association.
