Introduction:

This sale aims at promoting visual arts and antiques from Vietnam, with an emphasis on the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine and his major students.  Amidst the notable consignments in the sale:

Adam’s are proud to unveil a newly discovered masterpiece by a prominent artist of the Ecole des Beaux Arts de l’Indochine: Lê Quốc Lộc (Vietnam, 1918-1987). Born in Tuấn Quang hamlet, a student of Joseph Inguimberty (1896-1971), Lê Quốc Lộc graduated from the above-mentioned school in 1942 (12th class). One of the most-prized Vietnamese lacquer artists of the 20th century, along with Phạm Hậu and Nguyễn Gia Trí, he is also known for having been the deputy director of and a professor at the Gia Đinh (Saigon) School of Applied Arts (1959-1967) and to have been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art (in 2000).

ADAM’S are proud to unveil a newly discovered masterpiece by a professor at the ecole des beaux arts de l’indochine: Alix Aymé (1894-1989).  This lacquer panel depicts a young melancholic girl with flowers. The gold-lacquered background elevates the young model to the rank of a byzantine icon, while the pastel flowers not only bring freshness but also contribute to the feminine and sensual soul of this portrait.
