A FINE PAIR OF IRISH GEORGE III FLINTLOCK CALVARY PISTOLS by Rigby of Dublin. Fully stocked with Damascus barrels and swivel ramrods, fitted with brass furniture. Each stamped with firearms registration marks for West Cork.

This pair of Flintlock Calvary pistols and the Irish George III Flintlock Carbine (Lot 17) are consecutively numbered 'WC 429; 430; 431'

The Registration of Firearms ( Ireland) Act of August 22, 1843, provided for the granting of licenses to Irish firearm owners and required the firearms to be registered by county, borough or city constabulary officials who recorded the registration and the registry number (normally a letter indicating the jurisdiction followed by a number- usually four digits). The Act required the arms to be marked under the supervision of the relevant inspector of the Constabulary Force. The number indicates the registration as specified in the license.
