James Francis Danby (1816-1875) Evening Calm Oil on canvas, 52 x 91.5cm (22.5 x 36'') Signed and dated 1849 The eldest son and pupil of Francis Danby, and brother of Thomas Danby, James Francis Danby exhibited at the British Institution, the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists. He travelled in France, Switzerland and Italy, often painting landscapes and coastal scenes at sunrise or sunset in oils and watercolours.
