A 19TH CENTURY VIZAGAPATAM IVORY VENEERED SANDALWOOD SEWING BOX, of sarcophagus form, the top with central engraved ivory lozenge initialled 'BC' surrounded by trailing foliage and flowers, enclosed with bands of ivory engraved with corresponding foliate and ropetwist decoration, the front, back and sides with conforming bands of carved ivory, the hinged lid opening to reveal a hidden compartment inlaid ivory carved with Lakshmi Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity, the fitted two-level interior with individual ivory veneered compartments and a set of ivory sewing spools carved with flower blossom designs, raised on scalloped shaped circular feet. 18cm high, 36cm wide x 28cm deep
