CHARLES I. A collection of severall speeches, messages and answers of the Kings Majestie to both Houses of Parliament - London: 1642. 4to. pp. [iv], 85. A good copy in modern half morocco. Wing C 2159. This reprints a considerable number of pamphlets and the section that deals with Ireland includes the Scots Commissioners Propositions of January 24 1641 [42] “Touching the sending of the 2500 men into Ireland.” These were accepted by the “House of Commons” and the “House of Peeres” and while the King at first was reluctant to accede to the third proposition which provided “That they have the command and keeping of the Towne and Castle of Carrickfergus”. he too gave his consent on January 27 “since His Majestie perceives that insisting upon the same would breed a great delay in the necessary supply of his Kingdom of Ireland”. Sweeney 983.
