John Fitzgerald (19th Century) North Gate Bridge and City Gaol 1798 Watercolour, 23 x 33cm (9 x 13'') Signed, inscribed 'Cork' and dated 1798 Provenance: From the Estate of the late Charlie Hennessy, Cork. James Fitzgerald, fondly remembered as the ''Bard of the Lee'' was a poet, writer and artist. Born in Hanover Street Cork in 1825 he was to later teach at the Crawford School of Art. He is known for these type of antiquarian topographical drawings of the houses and bridges around Cork and examples are in the Crawford Gallery Collection and the Irish Architectural Archive.
