Rare Documented Pair Royal Irish Constabulary: An extremely rare R.I.C. Inspectors 'Tourin,' or Side Cap, and an Inspectors Helmet made by John Ireland & Son, Dublin., both with original badges. * Both helmet & 'Tourin' are very rare in themselves, but to find them as a pair is extremely rare. The National Museum does not possess examples. See O'Herlihy, 'Royal Irish Constabulary Officers' Four Courts Press, Dublin 2005, page 308. * Both the above items were the property of Dist. Ins. Michael Wall, Reg. No. 29711. He was born in 1846, Co. Kilkenny. he joined R.I.C. as a Constable and selected for commission (a rare occurrence, as most offices were from the 'landed' classes) in 1888, and posted to Omagh as District Inspector. He died in 1916. (1)
