Rare Insurgents Newspaper Periodical: Irish War News, The Irish Republic. Vol. I No. 1, [All Published] 4to Dublin Tuesday April 25, 1916. FIRST & ONLY EDITION. Single sheet, folded, 4pp. some browning of paper and some dirt marks, otherwise a good large copy, with untrimmed edges of this extremely rare republican publication. * This highly important publication, written almost entirely by P.H. Pearse, was intended by him to be the first of series which would be issued to keep the citizens of Dublin informed about the progress of the Rising. However, plans were upset when the crown forces raided the premises of the Gaelic press and confiscated or destroyed all equipment. The owner Joe Stanley immediately set about finding other suitable premises in order to continue the work of the Rebellion, and keep the public informed. He commandeered O'Keeffe's printing works in Holston Street, having abandoned his plan to take over the Irish Independent plant, and it was from here that ''Irish War News'' was printed & distributed from. It is the second most important publication of the Rising, after ''The Proclamation of the Irish Republic.'' (1)
