Hugh Douglas Hamilton, (1739-1808) Mary Preston Pastel, 27 x 21.5cm's, (10.75 x 8.25''), (oval) Provenance: From the Collection of John Maher, Bloomfield House, Enniscorthy and thence by decent. Purchased by Mr Maher on June 1st 1928 Christie Manson and Woods, London, lot no.30 costing ?18.18.00. Mary Preston was born Mary Hamilton, the daughter of Hon. Henry Hamilton M.P for Co. Donegal and Collector of the Port of Cork. Her father was the third son on Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne whose family seat was Stackallen, Co. Meath. Mary married the Rev. Nathaniel Preston on 27th Oct 1763. He was the heir to Preston home at Swainston, Kilmessan in Co. Meath. The Preston family were also connected with Gormanstown Castle again in Co. Meath.
