1635 Ratio atque Institutio Studiorum Societatis Jesu auctoritate Septimæ Congregationis generalis aucta. Printed Apud Joannem Mersium, Antwerp: 8vo with Jesuit device adorning both titlepage. With a preface dated Rome 11th February 1616 and signed by Bernardis de Angelis. After two earlier drafts this was first published in 1599 and for the next two centuries the success of Jesuit education was largely founded upon the systems it laid down for guiding and governing hundreds of their schools in Europe, Latin America and Asia. In this edition it is printed following on a 1635 edition of the ''Regulae Societatis Jesu''. Binding: contemporary vellum. Tha Provenance: a cancelled library stamp of a German school. Condition of the Ratio Studiorum: apart from mild browning in the later section especially good as it escaped any library stamp or cancellation. Provenance: The estate of Tony Sweeney
