Biography

Romeo Toogood studied at the Belfast School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. Returning to his home town of Belfast in 1930 he joined a small group of artists known as the Ulster Unit, and taught at various high schools and institutes including the Belfast College of Art where his students included Terence Flanagan and Basil Blackshaw. Toogood’s work was exhibited at the RHA, Ulster Academy of Arts, RUA and the Piccolo Gallery in Belfast. Following his death retrospectives were he
ld by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (1978) and the Bell Gallery (1989).
