Hugh Douglas Hamilton, (1739-1808) Madame La Touche Pastel, 24 x 19cm, (9.5 x 7.5''), (oval) Literature: Listed in Strickland Exhibited:''Exposition des Pastellistes Anglais du XVIIIe Si?cle'', Paris April-June 1911 Cat. No. 65 where it was the property of Lord Duveen Provenance: Lord E.J Duveen G.W Panther, The Bawn Foxrock. Sold at Sotheby's July 1929 Lot 122 where purchased by Mr John Maher, Bloomfield House, Enniscorthy for ?17.0.0 and thence by decent. Litterature: illustrated in ''English Pastels'' by R.M See Madame La Touche is thought to be Cecilia La Touche who married David La Touche eldest son of R.T Hon David La Touche in 1789. Cecilia la Touche is the daughter of Joseph Leeson, 1st Earl of Milltown and his third wife the daughter of the V. Rev W French of Roscommon. It is interesting to note that the Earl of Milltown's 2nd wife was the sister of Rev. Nathaniel Preston husband of Mary Preston (see lot 27). Hamilton executed over 12 known portraits for the La Touche Family.
