Colin Middleton RHA (1910-1913) Capetown Watercolour, 17.75 x 17.75cm (7 x7'') Signed with monogram Exhibited; Colin Middleton Exhibition'' entitled ''Rossmoyne, Perth, Western Australia August - September 1972'' exhibited at the McClelland Galleries May 1973 where purchased by present vendor. Original Exhibition Label executed by artist signed and inscribed by the artist verso. As a result of George and Mara McClelland purchasing a large collection of early work by Middleton, Colin and his wife Kate had sufficient funds to go and see Kate's daughter Alison in Australia. They travelled by cruise ship via Cape Town, where the current work as done and the trip resulted in 26 Australian watercolours which some consider Middleton's finest series of work. All were completed on the same scale and Colin designed a special poster for the exhibition which was a ''sell-out'' show. It was an interesting return by Middleton to the medium of watercolour which from an exhibition point of view had rather a subsidiary position to his oil paintings.subsidary position to his oil paintings.
