Michael Casey (b.1932) Madonna and Child Yewwood, 61cm high Signed and dated 1980 Michael Casey was born in Lansboro, Co. Longford in 1932. He studied woodwork at Longford Vocational School before being apprenticed to a builder's carpenter. In the early 1950's he emigrated firstly to England, then to Canada and the United States. He returned to Ireland in 1960 and set up his carpenter's workshop at Newtowncashel in Co. Longford where he still lives. He began working with bog oak in 1970 having seen the potential in this medium. He has also worked with pine and yew, as in this example. A book entitled ''Michael Casey sculptor - Thirty Years of Sculpture'' was published in 2004.
