JOHN VINEYCOMB (1883-1928) The Battle of Cavehill Watercolour, 27 x 74.5cms (10 x 29.25'') Signed and dated 1896 John Vineycomb was born in the U.K. but was in Belfast by 1855 when he was working Marcus Ward and Company Belfast who along with fellow employees formed the short lived Belfast Sketching Club and later the Belfast Ramblers Sketching Club of which he was President. On the Foundation of the Belfast Art Society in 1890 Vineycomb was its first President. He is known for his book plate,heraldry and medal designs. On the foundation of the Ulster Arts Club Vineycomb was again appointed its first President an office he held for three years.
