'Bonnard Intimiste' - this little Neil Shawcross oil is the earliest example of his oeuvre we collected over the years. Like so many other art happenings in our lives, procuring this work was a very pleasant experience. I dropped in to check out if my Belfast based gallery friend, Brian Eakin had anything new on his walls. My eyes fixed instantly on this 'little Bonnard' resting against a desk on the floor. This Shawrcross painting displayed all that which is associated with the work of the French painter famous for aptly called, 'intimiste' or 'intimacy' and domestic bliss.

 

My affinity with this work reflecting 'aul dacency' replete with bone china cups, chimed not just with the artist's delicate touch but also with the spirit of its previous owner the celebrated Northern Ireland and Slade College painter, Tom Carr.
