David Hockney (b.1937) Pretty Tulips Lithograph printed in colours, sheet 72 x 49.5cms Signed, inscribed with title, numbered 39/200 and dated 70 Often classified as a British Pop artist, David Hockney has been at the forefront of the art world since the 1960s, working is various styles and mediums. After studying in his home town at the Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London where he was awarded the gold medal in his final year, Hockney began visiting New York where he met Andy Warhol. Trips across the Atlantic became more frequent, and California has become a second home for the artist. Lithography has been a preferred medium of Hockney's since the early 1960s. True to his pop roots his subjects have mostly centred on famous figures, but also family portraits and everyday imagery. His prints are housed in major collections internationally, such as the Tate Britain, the Museum of Modern Art New York.
