Italo Valenti (Italian 1912-1995) Lacustre Gouache and paper collage, 43 x 59.5cm (including backboard) Signed; signed, inscribed with title, numbered NR307 and dated 1964 on the backboard Provenance: Dawson Gallery, Dublin, where purchased by Dr & Mrs J.B. Kearney Born in Milan, Italo Valenti studied at the Brera Academy from 1932-1937, and went on to further his studies in Rome. While his early work was strongly figurative, after World War II concluded, like many avant-garde artists, he turned almost exclusively to abstraction, his primary concern being the effects of pure colour. Moving to Switzerland in the early 1950s, collage became his dominant medium. By that time, Valenti was already recognised internationally, with shows in Berlin, Paris, Geneva and London, as well as across Italy.
