Jason Ellis (20th/21st Century) Skate Irish limestone, 31cm x 21cm Signed with monogram The sculptor's upbringing in a fishing village in Cornwall seems to be the inspiration behind this latest work. More naturalistic than his usual abstract carvings, Skate features a beautifully marbled Irish limestone that gleams in high relief against the unpolished background. Ellis sold well in Adam's Contemporary & Modern Auction in December 2007. Since then, he showed and sold at 'The Secret Garden' group exhibition run by the Solomon Gallery in the Iveagh Gardens this summer and has recently installed a large indoor commission at the headquarters of the Irish Intercontinental Bank. His largest commission to date, Figurehead, stands 7 metres tall and was installed at the UCD campus at Belfield in February of this year.
