**Withdrawn - Donated to Irish Museum of Modern Art** Frederick E McWilliam RA (1909-1992) 'HELP' - Women of Belfast Series (1975) Bronze, 41.5 cm high (16'') Signed and numbered 2/5 Exhibited: (an example of this edition) F.E. McWilliam Retrospective 1981, Ulster Museum, Belfast, Apr/May; Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College Dublin, May/June; The Crawford Gallery, Cork, July/Aug, cat. no. 120 On Reflection-Modern Irish Art 1960's-1990's, The Crawford Gallery, Cork, Aug-Oct 2005; and afterwards at Galway City Museum, 2006 Literature: On Reflection, full page illustration, page 56 (front and back) ''Help'' is one of the artist's works that falls into the 'Women of Belfast' series. The sketches and bronzes represent an attempt by the artist to address a specific event in Irish history, and as such it relates to McWilliam's interest in humanity as a theme. The series was inspired by media images of the bombings of the Abercorn restaurant in Belfast in July 1972. At the time McWilliam was working on the expressive potential of drapery in his work. F.E.McWilliam stated that these series of draped figures were ''intended to further the emotion of the experience rather than to depict actual clothing. In a way, although it looks real, I have taken more liberties with the drapery than with the human form. I would like the drapery itself to be a sort of metaphor for the event''
