AN IVORY, ONYX AND GOLD PENDANT BY BOUCHERON ON ASSOCIATED CHAIN, CIRCA 1970

The 'O'-shaped ivory pendant decorated with two opposing carved onyx boules between beaded gold borders and with a corresponding beaded gold pendant hook, mounted in 18K gold, signed Boucheron, with maker's mark, French assay mark, on an associated 18k gold fancy-link chain, pendant length 7.5cm, chain length approximately 46cm

One hundred and sixty years ago, the son of a couturier named Frédéric Boucheron opened his first jewellery boutique in the Galerie de Valois in Paris. So successful was he here that by 1893, he left the arcades of the Palais Royal to open a new street level shop at No.26 Place Vendôme, becoming the first contemporary jewellery in the place now synonymous with high jewellery and fashion.

This location not only attracted high society clientele but it also had space above the shop for Boucherons workshop. From here, Boucherons grandiose trail-blazing designs paved the way for future generations of designers. Using not only fine gemstones but also exotic materials such as lapis lazuli, coral, hematite, onyx, hemp and snakewood, Boucheron created imaginative majestic designs driven by a passion for abstraction.

The Maison continues to this day to honour its founders ideals, constantly striving to push the boundaries of high jewellery with new materials and innovative craftsmanship. The legendary name of Boucheron maintains its position within the high jewellery hall of fame.
