Brian O'Nolan (a.k.a. Flann O'Brien/Myles na Gopaleen) A letter of acknowledgement to J.J. Burke, Hon. Secretary, Cumann Sean Oglach 1916, dated 2 Nollag [December] 1941, signed by O'Nolan as Secretary to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health (in Irish, B. O Nuallain, Runai Aire), on headed Departmental notepaper, with some related documents attached. Now remembered as a distinguished author and satirist, O'Nolan earned his daily bread for many years as a senior civil servant. He retired in 1953 on grounds of ill-health; it is said that his retirement was accelerated by Ministerial displeasure with his pseudonymous newspaper columns. His Civil Service signature is surprisingly scarce.
