Unpublished 1916 Play Esposito (Mario) Salvation, A typescript 46pp (top copy) of an unpublished 3 Act play dealing with the 1916 Rising the events leading up to it, and the preparation of the Republican Leaders. The characters include Pearse, Connolly, Tom Clarke etc., and the writer displays close familiarity with the internal organisation of the Rising. The typescript is unsigned but it is accompanied by an envelope bearing an identifying inscription in Italian in the hand of the classical scholar Maria Esposito, dating the work circa 1925, and a correction on p. 12 of Act 2 is also in Esposito's hand. A most interesting item, probably unique. As a m/ss., w.a.f. * Mario Esposito was son of Michele Esposito, a distinguished musician and composer who was Professor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music for many years. Mario was himself a scholar specialising in the Latin literature of mediaeval Ireland. Provenance: Mildred Ware/Esposito Archive. (1)
