Pierce Mc Cann of The Tipperary Volunteers Piaras Mc Cann (1882 - 1919) Two A.L.s to his friend Siobhan (Joan Jennings) of Dublin, the first from Ballyowen, Cashel dated 1911, responding to condolences, the second from Richmond Barracks, where he was detained after the 1916 Rising; a third A.L.s. from Pierce's mother Jane also to Ms. Jennings, 1919, relating in detail Pierces last days and hours, with accompanying envelopes. As manuscripts, w.a.f. A poignant and rare collection. * Pierce Mc Cann, from the Cashel area was a leading figure in the Tipperary Volunteers. After receiving Mac Neill's countermanding order, he decided not to call out his men to join the Rising, but was arrested soon afterwards in any case. He was again in 1918, and died in an English prison early in 1919, from influenza. His funeral was one of the largest seen in his home area for many years. See larger collection of Mc Cann letters sold in these rooms, Lot 671, 15 April, 2008. (1)
