Limerick interest: An autograph letter dated Sept. 3rd, 1916, signed 'M', 4pp. 2 sheets, ''Some Old Place'' (ie. Frongoch Detention Centre), addressed to Ralph (Slattery), a Limerick Volunteer. 'As you know I was never very fond of being stuck up in the same place for any length of time, but they say that a fellow can even get used to being married, so why shouldn't I get used to the 'clink' if i could forget everything about my life outside. Oh Jerusalem! I must be getting looney ... . We've got past the stage of leap-frog and jumping races (with legs tied) now and have graduated into handball .... . Nobody make me laugh more than Arthur G. He has bad sight and when he sees the ball coming towards him he makes a wild swipe generally managing to get within a foot of it.... ' Also mentions recipient's brother, 'By jove, how proud I'd be to have had a brother sentenced to death,' Sean T. O'Kelly etc. Later he mentions, 'the great raid'- 'thirteen of them all over London must have done fearful destruction'- apparently this refers to one of the German Zeppelin raids. ... asks to be remembered to 'all the boys and girls again,' mentioning a number by name. Apparently not censored, no marks present. An interesting letter from inside, together with a ''Limerick Brigade Membership Card,'' belonging to Ralph Slattery. As a manuscript, w.a.f. (1)
