One of the most-prized Vietnamese lacquer artists of the 20th century, along with Phạm Hậu and Nguyễn Gia Trí, he is also known for having been the deputy director of and a professor at the Gia Đinh (Saigon) School of Applied Arts (1959-1967) and to have been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art (in 2000).
