Antique Kuba kilim, N.E. Azerbadjian, Ca 1865-1880 An early and highly representative example of this group of powerful Caucasian kilims. Finely woven with a strong handle, the pleasing colours all organic. Yanni Petsopoulos illustrates several closely related pieces in his important book Kilims, London 1979, plts 281, 286 & 287. He describes the main motifs in simple geometric terms but the origin of it is almost certainly zoo-morphic (eagle, turtle). In good condition throughout. 338 x 179 cms, 11'2'' x 6'11''
