A pair of George I Irish mahogany side chairs, c.1720, each with shell carved top rail above a vase-shaped splat, and drop in seat covered in floral damask, standing on shell capped cabriole supports, with claw and ball feet. Note: Chairs of this type are illustrated Knight of Glin/ Peill, Irish Furniture page 208. This is one of the earliest uses known of mahogany in Irish furniture.
