Patrick Heron (1920-1999) Reds with lemon disc: December 1969 Gouache, in the artist's original frame, 17.75 x 24cms Signed and inscibed with title on the backboard Provenance: Waddington Galleries, London, where purchased by the present owner Patrick Heron is an internationally renowned as a painter and critic. Born in Leeds, he attended the Slade School of Art and was strongly influenced by Paul Cezanne, Georges Braque and Henri Matisse, whose works he saw in London in various galleries as a young man. Following World War II his main influence was Abstract Expressionism. Heron's first solo show was held at the Redfern Gallery in London in 1947, and in 1960 he had another at the Bertha Schaefer Gallery in New York. In the intervening years he won first prize at the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition. Much of Heron's work can be seen in the Tate Britain in London and Tate St. Ives in Cornwall, however a number of his paintings were tragically destroyed at a warehouse fire in 2004.
