William Osborne RHA (1823-1901) Let us be Friends Oil on canvas, 46 x 35.5cm (18 x 14'') Signed with mongram, inscribed with title verso William Osborne is today best remembered as the father of the artist Walter Osborne. But he was a significant artist in his own right. He specialised in painting animals especially his own terriers who were often depicted in his studio. Strickland wrote ''His pictures of dogs, in which he excelled, are full of life and vivacity, well drawn and good in colouring, often with touches of humour, the work of a man who had made the habits and characteristics of dogs a constant study.''
