Provenance: From the Estate of the Collector Jim McNaughton The subject in this picture is Kathleen Kearney who was introduced to Purser by Maud Gonne for whom she was a receptionist. She became Purser's favourite model from around 1920 onwards. Kearney was a nationalist republican and married Stephen Behan and their children included the writer Brendan Behan. John O'Grady wrote of this picture ''This is an exultant celebration of the nude as a subject in its own right''
