Rowan Gillespie (b.1953) Click Bronze, 110cm high Signed, numbered 8/9 and dated 2005 Provenance: A Private Collection, Northern Ireland. ''In 2003, at a time when Ireland was opening its doors to a new wave of immigrants, keen to augment the workforce of a booming economy, a celebration of cultural diversity was planned for Dun Laoghaire near Blackrock, the first port of call for many. The Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Culture welcomed a diverse range of music, dance and theatre from around the world - perhaps through its portal, the Blackrock Dolmen. Hot, pulsating Moroccan rhythms filled the air as Rowan arrived to soak up a little of the atmosphere. He became transfixed by a band of musicians and dancers - in particular one of the backing dancers. She displayed remarkable self confidence and unselfconscious grace as she wove a rhythmic path around the stage, clicking her fingers. The artist's instinctive response to the subject inspired a small wax model to be cast in bronze. His observations of the dancer and her enticing occupation of space came to an end. But then, one afternoon as he looked for a subject for a commissioned birthday gift, she resurfaced. Eighteen months had passed during which CLICK had stood in the corner of the workshop oblivious to her fate. A more substantial, immensely popular 1.3 metre (4 feet) version followed.''
