Born in Dubin in 1946, Richard has divided his time over the past 35 years between Dublin, Milan and Tokyo. In 2014, he became the first Irish artist to design a Carré scarf for luxury fashion house Hermès. His long relationship with Japan has been a major influence on his work, most notably with his use of handmade kozo washi paper.
Richard has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and Asia since the 1980s and in 2016 had a seminal exhibition in Castletown House to celebrate his 70th birthday. Richard Gorman is one of Irelands leading abstract painters today and is represented in many collections both private and public including The Ulster Museum, OPW, Deutsche Bank and the New York Public Library.
Richard Gorman is represented by the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin.
