July, Drumrush (1970)
Oil on board, 30 x 30cm (11½ x 11½'')

Provenance : From the collection of artists Brian and Denise Ferran
This Colin Middleton painting was shown in 1970 at an exhibition, entitled Two Ulster Painters at the Westgate Art Gallery in Newcastle-on-Tyne. The exhibition was part of the Newcastle Arts Festival, organized by Michael Emerson, who, at the time, was Director of the Belfast Festival at Queens. Of the two artists selected, one was aged 60 (Colin Middleton) and the other aged 30 (Brian Ferran). Emerson, was advised by Tom Caldwell, who had, at that time, opened an art gallery in Belfast. Each artist was represented by 20 paintings. At the end of the exhibition, Colin and Brian exchanged paintings and the landscape in Adams November auction is the one Brian received.
The painting was also shown in the late seventies, in an exhibition, called Collectors Choice, at the Butler Gallery in Kilkenny.
Colin and Kate Middleton and Brian and Denise Ferran remained life long friends.
