Munster & Lenister Leinster Bank paid cheque for £5 signed by Terence MacSwiney in Irish 'Toirbhealbhach mac Suibhne' to Rev Mother, Bon Secours Home, and dated at Cork 21.V.20, with blue embossed 2d. cheque duty stamp.
Terence James MacSwiney , 28 March 1879 25 October, was a politician, playwright and author. During the War of Independence 1920 he was elected as Lord Mayor of Cork. He was arrested by the British on charges of sedition and imprisoned in Brixton Prison in England. He went on hunger strike while incarcerated and died, 74 days later on October 1920. His protest brought him and the Irish struggle for independence to international attention.
