Biography

Born in Dublin in 1966, Cronin studied in the National College of Art and Design, graduating in 1988. His work focuses primarily on the relationship between painting and the ever-increasing technological developments of our world. He is concerned with question of how the painted image can exist and reflect the advances in the 21st century particularly with the advent of artificial intelligence. Cronin often alternates between more traditional materials such as paper to the hard-industrial surfa
ce of metal to examine the affect it produces to the painted surface. While his compositions are abstract, the titles of the works or his exhibitions often reflect an inclination towards creating an overall thematic link between them.   Cronin has been exhibiting since the late 1980s, with his work appearing in shows in Europe, U.S. and Asia. Most recently it has been exhibited alongside that of Cecily Browne, Ian Davenport, Mark Francis, Howard Hodgkin, Callum Inness, Jason Martin and Seán Scully in the major review of Abstract painting in Britain and Ireland - Painting in the Noughties.
